@fba
You know, on this topic, I thought I'd have a look at https://fba.ryona.agency/?domain=wagesofsinisdeath.com and 251 instances block that domain. journa.host (which came into being after wagesofsinisdeath.com ceased existing forever) has been careful to remove the media from wagesofsinisdeath.com.
And then there are some notes, right, and one of them says "unified_tier1_blocklist" and that got me wondering. It's actually worse than that: it's in Oliphant's allegedly curated "Tier 0" list: https://codeberg.org/oliphant/blocklists/src/branch/main/blocklists/tier0.csv . That domain was dead before oliphant.social existed. It's also on the other blocklist, https://seirdy.one/pb/tier0.csv , also "Tier 0". Per https://seirdy.one/posts/2023/05/02/fediverse-blocklists/ :
> I totally get resistance to blindly importing blocklists; I don’t actually feel comfortable going the “import and forget” route myself! The first couple hundred entries of the pleroma.envs.net blocklist started with a few imports, but all domains have since been manually reviewed. For admins who don’t feel comfortable “outsourcing” their moderation to blocklist authors: I generally see pre-made blocklists as a starting point.
"Starting point", my ass. It is obviously a lie that anyone has reviewed this list: not only have they not reviewed, but zero people have verified the list. You see people make weird shit up but in this case, people copy these lists around, caution everyone really strongly to verify the lists before importing them, and nobody does that, no one is verifying anything. Pointing this out is grounds for being included in these instance's blocklists, and that propagates up the chain to these allegedly curated lists that are collections of other instances' lists, and this provides an incentive to not question the lists.
Credit where it's due: at least one blocklist was retracted because the originator recognized this problem: https://joinfediverse.wiki/FediBlock . As for the rest of them, here are some left-wing people that would rather deal with sharecropping on a platform owned by their nemesis Elon Musk than with the lunatics that do this kind of thing.
