   Benito Mussolini donated a column from Pompeii to the Japanese government to be
   erected by a grave site at Iimori Mountain to honor a unit of samurai that committed suicide after the defeat of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
   Adolf Hitler would donate his own column to the very same site to honor the samurai, which symbolized the best of fascism.
   American occupation forces later destroyed the swastika on the German column and the Japanese replaced it with an iron cross.
