IMO, which you didn't ask for, the real power is in the Fedi aspect.

In scifi films we see people connected seamlessly. In reality, we are in silos and stuck with platforms.

I just imagine watching a movie or show where a character says, "Hold on, I have to make an account on the platform, then submit a friend request and wait for them to accept it. Eventually we'll have the evidence we need."

I don't know how to deplatform people though.
