@feditips Ah, I think I see why. I'm on desktop. It doesn't prompt me for my credentials so it's a bit smoother and just looks like a redirect. Mobile will ask for proof if you're not logged into your instance in your browser. I'm assuming this is confusing if a user is using Tusky or other client and doesn't understand or doesn't want to login to Mastadon on their mobile browser.
@feditips I don't know if I understand 100%. After entering in my info to Remote Follow I got a redirect to follow on my home instance and that's the first time I saw the channel on my instance. From there I followed locally. So I don't know if this is a 'true' remote follow based on what you're saying. I never logged into their server, but it did force some kind of search to pick up the channel finally on my instance.
@feditips Not sure. I tried searching for it last month, too. It wasn't until today that I saw that remote option, and copy and pasting my own channel address wasn't what 'remote follow' wanted. It would be nice for users to have those directions, too. I had to look at the HTML to figure out remote follow wanted it in (username)@(instance) format for my username
@feditips It didn't work until I remotely followed at least one channel from vtr.chikichiki.tube, so it may have not been federated with my server until now. After that explicit searching with the user address worked. Now other channels on vrt.chikichiki.tube can be searched via the fedi.tips directions. I tried the way on fedi.tips initially and it was not working until my follow.
@feditips Yes, the copy paste, search on my instance did not work. It does show up after I subscribed remotely with 1 follower, so I think I'm the first for a lot of these channels on my instance. And once there's one follower they will show up
@feditips I figured it out. I had to do it differently than the directions on fedi.tips. Go to channel->subscribe->remote follow-> (enter username@instance)->Redirect to my instance -> follow account
