@cstross I have said for years that a quick way to determine if someone is a person likely to believe in this stuff, ask them how they feel about The Notebooks of Lazarus Long. The deeper their admiration for it, and the more they feel it's a manual for living, the brighter the red flag.

@cstross There's a few actual gems in there (the bit about not making decisions when tired or hungry is 100% golden) but the rest of it needs to be dumped, along with his obsession (shared by Pournelle and their fellow-travelers) with hard currency.
