@thendrix while I can't really prove it, I had a weird feeling about some of the stuff coming out of the DeSantis campaign...
You know how you can tell what camp someone's in by what they think a movement or campaign stands for, or how they describe a "typical" follower? Like whether they describe a propaganda caricature or actually have a sane and nuanced view of it?
Some of the stuff coming out of the DeSantis campaign felt like it was being written by someone who sees a caricature, and actually made DeSantis appear more Orange-Man than Trump.
@thendrix in the same way as when a socialist runs a business or participates in business, they inevitably scam, because their belief-system is that 100% of business/capitalism is illegitimate scamming, so that's the norm to them.
Their knowledge of the activity comes from caricatures they have been fed, so when they engage in the activity, they become the caricature. They play the role.
@Moon "We can stay abusive longer than you can act upset about us abusing you" That's what complaining with no leverage of a possibility of leaving is like.
Anyone still there at this point is part of the machine (jannie) or has stockholm syndrome, and is a captive audience that will tolerate anything.
@Moon@animeirl@bot@jeffcliff The grant application for bat coronavirus gain of function research, originally went to DARPA, who decided it was too risky.
Let me emphasize: DARPA said it was too risky. DARPA.
So they applied to NIH and with Eco-Health Alliance, got the funding (Fauci himself had a hand in this, amazing coincidence). It's illegal to do the research in the USA, so they outsourced it to Wuhan, China. Where China's not considered qualified or trustworthy enough to do the Bio-Security that it involved.
So they used the GITMO workaround: do the illegal on US soil thing in another country.
And as far as I'm aware. NOTHING has changed in terms of the law, and all of this could happen again right now. It's like "hey, let's build another Chernobyl, the exact same way!"
@lain@feld@augustus I saw that as well, she was clearly listing a bunch of claims she does not believe in sarcasm, to emphasize the craziness of a thing she was describing. I even thought at the time "oh boy, someone's going to take that out of context".
To claim that it was unironic is disingenuous gaslighting.
@thendrix@feld@lain@augustus after watching the MM podcast with Barr, I looked at her wikipedia, and found the amazing weasel words:
>Barr claimed that George Soros helped Nazis to round up Jews to be sent to concentration camps. In reality, his assimilated father entrusted him to a Hungarian official with whom the 14-year-old Soros went to inventory a Jewish property.
>went to inventory a Jewish property.
What an anti-semite, antagonizing a jew who only "went to inventory a Jewish property."
From the 1998 interview on 60 Minutes: Interviewer: "My understanding is, is that you went out with this protector of yours, who swore that you were his adopted godson, went out, in fact, and helped in confiscation of property from the jews." Soros: That's right, yes.
How dare she complain about George Soros and his... inventorying....
@lain Most people who complain about the 1% are either in it (but don't know it) or have parents who are in it that they will receive inheritance from.
It's the bourgeoisie complaining about the bourgeoisie.
This is the nature of Taboo: that which is forbidden is subconsciously fixated on, similar to reverse psychology.
This is also why the War on Drugs created and popularized harder and more damaging drugs.
Of course pedo crimes like child rape and child abuse and child grooming should be exposed and punished VERY severely...
but tbh I think the extreme opinions about pedo-related thought-crime or gray areas like loli, actually drive it underground and make it worse. There's a difference between fantasy and reality, and ideologues like to pretend there isn't. This is counterproductive for actually reducing/stopping real child abuse.

@lain I don't know whether to go the route of "we like to say Peoplehattan Project, it's more inclusive" or "as long as she can have a dick and be Enola Gay"
@icedquinn@lain@galena@newt even just keeping copyright/patents at their current amount of expansion seems like a pipe-dream. They continually expand and extend in a form of inflation. See the "Mickey Mouse Protection Act".
In my view, the core problem is that the culture still views patents and copyright laws as a moral good: the more of them the better. The opposite is actually the case, and the "garage inventor" argument for patents imo is ridiculous as the average/typical case is them being held back by broadly worded patents. The 3d-printing explosion only took place because of patent expiry for a device that never saw much traction. It's like saying that playing the lottery can be profitable for a few who play it, so it's a net good for all who play it. (I'm not saying that's what you're arguing)
Law and politics is downstream from culture, and the sentiment of "that's just the way it is" is suppressing reform. The insane RIAA and MPAA stuff has helped culturally. But there's this persistent myth that the big companies would go broke and people would starve, even if the laws just slow their expansion.
@icedquinn@galena@newt >lazze fare wasn't on the table Why not? We're talking about what's wrong with the current system. Things other than the current system must be on the table.
