This one is a personal pet peeve of mine. Prescritivism > descriptivism, makes sense. But then people, just, refuse to agree on meaning, while pretending they're all thinking of the same thing. And that's not how any of this works.
The other day I described my concept of "feats of skill" (e.g. Everything Everywhere All At Once) & "feats of budget" (e.g. Avatar franchise).
I'm much more interested in feats of skill, which explains why I can't bring myself to care about GPTs (which is all based on "how much data can we feed into these neuralnets?"). No matter how much it feels like I'm expected to!
New policy: You try to evangalize GPT to me, I'll evangalize Haskell to you. That actually addresses the bottlenecks I face!
(This might be kind of vague so this is the kind of thing I'm talking about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_mugging A shocking number of problems of this type that make me immediately respond with "why do you think this is a difficult problem?" seem to wind up mentioning Eliezer Yudkowsky when you look into why people are talking about them.)
Well, you can write spaghetti code with or without a framework. I totally blame CodePen for this as it does not allow me to organise code in the way I prefer.
I tried to mimic the structure to React.
But chasing async code (change event listeners from input elements) is confusing if you are not used to it.
Old-school memoisation was a trick he didn't knew. Luckily functions are objects ^.^
This is a great interview with @geomblog by Sharon Goldman
"This is a deliberate design choice, by ChatGPT in particular...ChatGPT puts little three dots [as if it’s] “thinking” just like your text message does. ChatGPT puts out words one at a time as if it’s typing. The system is designed to make it look like there’s a person at the other end of it. That is deceptive. And that is not right, frankly."
Unitek Y-247A vs uGo UKD-1086 vs Creative SB Play 3
each card was tested by connecting its input to its output with a janky cable and running
play -n synth 6 sin 20-20000
while recording with audacity.
This is a somewhat flawed, since I'm including each card's input path in the comparison, but at least both input and output run on the same clock, and only one USB card is in use at a time.
Alt-right *inverted and weaponized* Poe's law: "I'm not a racist, it's just sarcasm!"
They *relied* on the fact that Poe's Law gave them cover. "You're mistaking my sarcasm for the real article!"
It took us a decade or so to wise up to that and recognize they need to be denied this cover by not letting them hide behind the "sarcasm defense" after being called out.
We need to wise-up to the need of not letting people hide behind "of course it's AI generated" in the context of disinformation.
