Do papers submitted to the @libreoffice #OpenSource Conference need to be in ODT format?

Patrick Masson (massonpj@fosstodon.org)'s status on Monday, 17-Jun-2024 23:59:43 JST Patrick Masson I am struck by how outside the "norm" education-derived #opensource projects are, related to funding.
Everyone so far has a commercial orientation, aligned with typical corporate business and revenue models. As such they are emphasizing investors, customers, start-ups, etc.
Also of note is a, perhaps European, emphasis on goverment funding.
I don't think the education sector and the #OSS institutions that produce it, can take advantage of these approaches.

Interesting process were those who speak, then point to someone else from the audience to take their spot on the panel.

Patrick Masson (massonpj@fosstodon.org)'s status on Monday, 17-Jun-2024 23:59:42 JST Patrick Masson The open source software produced in #highered is a "by-project" [by-product] of their primary work (research, teaching and learning, academic/administrative computing); the #OpenSource software produced by companies--and many "projects" waiting for investors--is a "product."
The sustainability, support, and contributor models (and motivations) are thus all different... very different.

Patrick Masson (massonpj@fosstodon.org)'s status on Sunday, 06-Aug-2023 18:00:00 JST Patrick Masson Earlier, I shared concerns from a popular #EdTech forum:
Licensing renewal for hosted Instructure Canvas is increasing by a staggering 24% over the next 3 years.
It's interesting that #HigherEducation will apparently stick with a proprietary system, even as prices soar. However, it will migrate off an #OpenSource system as soon as any costs are incurred.

You're not providing #students an #education, your providing companies customers.
We never taught Smith-Corona, or Turbo TS40, or Ford Tempo. We taught, respectively, typing, wood shop, and student driving. We should teach word processing, computer technology, and communications.

Thank you for your leadership in the industry and support across the community.
Also a big thanks to all the people--current and former board directors, members, volunteers, and staff--who have contributed to the success of #OpenSource around the world.

Patrick Masson (massonpj@fosstodon.org)'s status on Monday, 09-Jan-2023 12:00:12 JST Patrick Masson Instead of referring to yourself as a "Google for Education Mentor" and "Adobe Creative Trainer" in your #edtech bio, wouldn't "sales consultant" and "business development" be more accurate and honest?
