Köln Hauptbahnhof is quite pretty at too-damn-early o’clock.

Quietly thinking about the amazing mobility trains have given us.

It’s a lovely day for riding monorails, but I’m hungry, so I will pause briefly in Backwerk.

Right, monorail time.

The Schwebebahn runs every 3 minutes, so no need to go back and forth repeatedly if I want to visit all 20 stations. So first, let’s go to one end of the line, Vohwinkel.

There is a delay!

Vohwinkel has a couple of things of interest. A park close to the station has some bits and bobs of Schwebebahn on display.

The other exciting thing here is trolley buses. I haven’t got a decent photo though. So let’s go to the next station.Vohwinkel - tick!

There is a huge gap in the trains in the other direction. Which will be my direction soon enough.

We start in the section over the road. Bruch has some lovely Art Nouveau houses and a couple of supermarkets.

Hammerstein is not an industrial band, but a mostly residential area with houses from Fachwerk to not-yet-finished.

Sonnborner Straße station building is pretty much identical to Hammerstein. The houses are older, and there’s diverse retail at ground level.

Varresbecke Straße is the first of a few stops by the huge Bauer chemical works.

Zoo/Stadion is where you get off if you want to see the mighty S.V. Wuppertal. It’s also where the line curves to go over the river instead of the street, and where the railway crosses over.

At Westende, part of the chemical works is being demolished.

Pestalozzistraße is a mix of residential and dilapidated industrial.

It’s cold today and it’s depleting my battery fast.

Oligsmühle is very modern.
