I've been disgusted by the lack of professional solidarity among journalists ever since Musk bought Twitter. As Musk bans journalists one-by-one, their colleagues stay on Twitter, tweeting out their work, hoping that they'll survive the next round.
The sudden collapse of Silicon Valley Bank is sending absolute shockwaves through the tech industry. Nobody is really buying into the narrative that "The risk of contagion is low" - the bottom line is, we don't know. The last 8 years in tech have been really strange, driven by wild monetary policy driving reckless investment decisions even from VC's whom I considered to be fairly conservative. We are due for a wider reckoning. https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/10/investing/svb-bank/index.html
Senior Twitter employee admits under oath that Twitter made exceptions to its racism policies to accomodate racist tweets by Trump, even going so far as to change their polices to avoid having to enforce them on Trump's tweets.
The Problem With Police Reform Is That Police Already Know It's Bad To Beat People To Death
Like most flavors of police reform, these measures presume that the police officers who kill do so only because they simply don't know what else to do, because they haven't been trained to do anything else. It presumes that they won't use a chokehold if they are told to not use chokeholds. It presumes that if we just tell police officers "Hey, stop murdering people who are no kind of actual threat to you," they will stop doing that. It assumes a certain amount of good faith that is not necessarily applicable to the kinds of police officers who kill people. https://www.wonkette.com/tyre-nichols-police-reform
At the protests in Los Angeles tonight, there were multiple stringers with professional camera rigs acting aggressively, shoving people, getting in people's personal space, and trying to provoke fights. After the protests disbanded, at least three of these stringers were seen huddling with LAPD.
LAPD is asking citizens to "please be on the lookout" for people who hold specific political beliefs.
What does an "ANTIFA member" look like? If you think you've spotted an "ANTIFA member", or even if you're just curious about what to look for and need guidance, you can call the LAPD phone numbers listed in this bulletin and ask them for help identifying ANTIFA members.
When you see someone like Elon Musk embracing the far right, it's not because the far right has any kind of coherent political or intellectual worldview he agrees with. It's because the far right is the last bastion of shitty people - they will accept anyone regardless of their personal behavior.
The far right have no standards for behavior, identity or beliefs - you only need to share the raw desire to dominate others. The far right welcomes all manner of abusers, thieves, grifters, and scoundrels.
Logically therefore if you're an abuser, thief, grifter or a scoundrel you will eventually find that the only friends you have remaining are far right extremists.
I warned in November about multiple Twitter breaches (plural), hours before my account was suspended. Multiple threat actors, MULTIPLE breaches - all related to the same contact-sync feature. My warnings have been proven correct. https://9to5mac.com/2022/11/25/massive-twitter-data-breach/
