Hi Murién, 66 year old White guy here
One problem is that Whites never *had to* create a racial identity and, as the overwhelming majority, we never before *had to* have a conversation about race. The fact that we *must* now talk about race and racism is itself an affront to some, an unwelcome reminder of long term demographic changes Whites cannot stop.
The loss of privilege feels like oppression, and I saw the panic begin with Obama’s second election
