@aral Aren't corporations machines too? 😁
(I remember @cstross making that argument in a keynote (IIRC))

Quincy (quincy@chaos.social)'s status on Saturday, 29-Apr-2023 20:45:48 JST Quincy Great, another "have your say" on some piece of #Orwell'ian shit legislation that is foregone conclusion, to pretend the public has been "consulted" in a show of democracy ...
Without even looking, is my guess correct that this is involuntary biometry and automated decision making sugarcoated as "convenience" ("smooth" travel for some)
or maybe dangerous government-controlled "smartphone" feature creep like eID?

Quincy (quincy@chaos.social)'s status on Saturday, 29-Apr-2023 20:45:47 JST Quincy I've taken part in a number of those pseudo-consultations regarding e-government or digital politics. The proposals to be commented never failed to "disappoint", always had a deeply Orwellian component.
And by now I know for sure that the "consultation" process isn't serious.
No amount of well-founded criticism from the public has had any impact whatsoever on those bandwagons.
The only effect is that the objections are there for all to see, for posterity maybe.

Quincy (quincy@chaos.social)'s status on Monday, 16-Jan-2023 14:58:41 JST Quincy The Constitutional Court of the Federal Republic of #Germany has ruled back in 2008 that the #integrity and #confidentiality of (our personal) #computers is indeed a constitutionally guaranteed right.
The ruling seems to emphasize limits on acute or punctual infiltration rather than stopping the systemic weakening of the infrastructure by laws that demand #backdoors, access and #coercion of administrators;
But AFAIK, it still lends support to the goal to #ProtectTheStack at all levels.

Quincy (quincy@chaos.social)'s status on Monday, 16-Jan-2023 14:58:40 JST Quincy I'm all the more severely disappointed that society™, by and large, utterly fails to grasp the importance of this basic right. Which is reflected and brazenly exploited in the plans for #Chatcontrol.
And that we still have to argue and work very hard to defend our basic infrastructure from state meddling at this level.

Quincy (quincy@chaos.social)'s status on Monday, 16-Jan-2023 14:58:37 JST Quincy I'm also severely disappointed that society™ utterly still fails to grasp that "#smartphones" are (the most) personal computers, that therefore should truly belong to the user, and the user alone.
And that neither locking these systems against the user in any way, much less making such locks or other non-user-aligned control mechanisms mandatory, nor demanding access to these systems, should be considered acceptable.
