Proud to join @kamakaniwrites @aGhostofeli & @JupiterDoomsday tomorrow for this discussion from queer indigenous, black, and people of color perspective! Also multiple Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians)! Come on in! #PrideMonth#LGBTQ#indigenous
A thread on my anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist cyberpunk game Neofeud about my life as an impoverished indigenous Hawaiian, social worker and STEM teacher for other poor/homeless, living in slums beneath billionaire mansions. https://octodon.social/@silverspookgames/105991409235206008
If you're not Hawaiian, you should not sell Hawaiian shirts. The garments are tied to colonialism and militarization of Hawaii, when Hawaiian language and culture were banned after the US stole our country. #IndigenousHistoryMonth
The aloha shirts were mass-sold to Americans to further a narrative that we Native Hawaiians as a nation were no more. Thus, the American’s capacity to literally wear paradise reified a narrative that Hawaii was theirs for the taking.
Similar to 'Hawaiian Pizza', turning the word 'Hawaiian' into nothing but a 'flavor' for US corporations to sell to consumers itself degrades and erases our real culture and history, solidifies the US colonial occupation, & nets them billions. https://octodon.social/@silverspookgames/110436361814120126
Even the 'inventor' of the Hawaiian shirt itself admitted, "There was no authentic Hawaiian material in those days so I bought gaudy Japanese kimono material." He designed the shirts, and displayed them in the store window with the sign ‘Hawaiian shirts.’
There are Native Hawaiian designers who do reclaim the 'Hawaiian Shirt' and intervene in the imperial narrative by producing culturally-informed themes & are worn at struggles against the US occupation including against TMT & military poisoning of our water at Kapukaki (Red Hill)
More on the US ban of Hawaiian language and culture, destruction of our universal healthcare & world's highest literacy rate, overthrowing of our country, imprisoning our leaders & illegal occupation ofHawaii to this day. https://octodon.social/@silverspookgames/110260994198428590
A thread on my game Neofeud about my life as an impoverished Hawaiian, social worker and STEM teacher for other poor/homeless, living in slums beneath billionaire mansions. My experiences refracted through the lens of satirical cyberpunk. https://octodon.social/@silverspookgames/105991409235206008
Neofeud explores AI, sentient machines, and being human, but no generative 'AI' were used in the making of Neofeud -- everything is hand written, painted, animated, programmed, and edited by myself. In fact, singular games like Neofeud are impossible with modern work-stealing, schlock regurgitating, latest capitalism scam described as 'AI'.
Trapping you in infinite sadness to sell cappuccinos with AI ghosts of your dead loved one, ok, yes that's #cyberpunk dystopia. But why isn't 'Neuromancer' in the headline?! The AI literally does that to Case!
I've always disliked the "content creator" descriptor. It's a corporate scheme to degrade art, writing, & humanity while promoting the "container" -- the money-grubbing, talentless server owner. As if plastic shrink-wrap around a Blade Runner DVD was more important than the film.
As the US tries to erase trans people, remember trans, non-binary & gender-fluid people are accepted in Hawaiian culture (i.e. mahu), & play vital roles in our resistance against colonization & US genocide of Hawaiians. Binary gender is a Western, imperial concept, forced on us.
Hawaii is a Disneyland-like resort built over our indigenous communities & ancestor's graves, made to do bastardizations of sacred dances, in 'sexy feather headresses' & entertain the rich tourists for starvation wages, 12 hrs a day 7 days a week, drinking jet fuel poisoned water
