I wanted to let you know about this awesome movement started in France to encourage people to quit X (Twitter) on January 20.
You can follow it here with the hashtag #HelloQuitX and use Mastodon's translation feature to read the posts (if your server has it). You can read more about this movement on this website (in English): https://www.helloquitx.com/
You can support this movement by following it on Mastodon, and sharing widely: @helloQuitX
To everyone when they see horrible privacy news about Microsoft replying with:
"I don't care, I use Linux"
Sure, you do. But does your medical clinic do? Does your therapist do? Does your family member typing a personal email to you in Word before sending it do too?
This is a systemic problem.
You cannot protect your own data only by using Linux yourself. You must also demand stronger regulations and enforcement to obligate organizations around to protect your data as well.
WHAT IF! The Mandalorians started as an extreme pro-#privacy group, and that’s why they never remove their helmets (to protect from facial recognition and retinal scan systems of course).
Then they started fighting surveillance capitalism...
This US bill could push mandatory age-verification on all major platforms (meaning you would have to give your ID to someone likely to abuse or not protect very well your sensitive data).
Imagine how more horrible and more unsafe that could make the internet.
Imagine how much worse that would be for any marginalized groups.
Imagine how much that could endanger vulnerable people.
Imagine how destructive that would be for anyone’s #privacy.
“Why do you use Signal and all this Encryption! Do you have anything to hide? 😡“
Yes! I do!

Privacy is a Human Right! ✊
Not sharing publicly what you do not wish to share is your right! 🔒✨
Give them their own unique unrelated name. Like Steve or Martha or CyberApple or MyMagicTinyPocketComputer ✨
Giving it your own name isn’t really helpful in any way to you, and through Bluetooth or WiFi scanning can make your name known to strangers in the vicinity you might not want to share your name with.
Giving weird unrelated names to your phones, computers, WiFi network, etc, is not only safer, it is also much cuter :awesome:
