If you own a business/non-profit org or freelance, what are you favorite software products and services to manage it, and why? 👀
Increased interest for any products and services with privacy features such as end-to-end encryption 🔒
WHAT IF!
The Mandalorians started as an extreme pro-#privacy group,
and that’s why they never remove their helmets (to protect from facial recognition and retinal scan systems of course).
Then they started fighting surveillance capitalism...
...and it all snowballed from there? 👀
Do not get fooled:
Increasing the surveillance
of everyone online
doesn’t help the kids,
it endangers them.
@arek Yay!!! 💪✨
Fediverse Networking Challenge! :geodesic:✨
I’m not on LinkedIn 🚫
I’m not on Facebook ⛔
I’m not on Twitter anymore :birdsite:
Do you think I can find a job in tech just by networking here? 👀
I’m having #KOSA nightmares.
This US bill could push mandatory age-verification on all major platforms (meaning you would have to give your ID to someone likely to abuse or not protect very well your sensitive data).
Imagine how more horrible and more unsafe that could make the internet.
Imagine how much worse that would be for any marginalized groups.
Imagine how much that could endanger vulnerable people.
Imagine how destructive that would be for anyone’s #privacy.
If you live in the #US
please please do something NOW to help us all. It will affect us all if it becomes law: https://act.eff.org/action/tell-congress-kosa-will-censor-the-internet-but-won-t-help-kids
I just received this very awesome sticker from @eff and I’m like: "Internet table flip indeed, EFF."
They really get me ❤️
“Why do you use Signal and all this Encryption!
Do you have anything to hide? 😡“
Yes! I do!
- The color of my underwear
- My friends’ cats photos
- My failed gym class grades
- My first attempt at "portrait"
- The outcome of my last meal
- The weird mole on my left toe
- How much I cried watching Star Trek
- How much cheese there is in my fridge
- My failed knitting experiment
- The horrible poem I just wrote
- My bank card pin number
- My social security number
- My main password
- The web search history for your birthday gift
Privacy is a Human Right! ✊
Not sharing publicly what you do not wish to share is your right! 🔒✨
Sometimes criminals close the door when plotting crimes.
“We should ban doors!” 🚫🚪
Sometimes criminals hide weapons under their clothes.
“We should ban clothes!” 🚫👖
🙃
Do not fall for these misguided arguments.
Most of the time people use end-to-end encrypted apps to talk about the most mundane things.
Sometimes vulnerable people use end-to-end encryption to protect themselves and stay safe.
We should keep and cherish encryption.
We should demand it everywhere.
End-to-end encryption protects our human right to privacy and safety.
We must fight for it! ✊🔒
What is one computer thing that you do that might be considered weird in our modern computer time?
I’ll start:
I regularly unplug my computer from the internet when I don’t do internet stuff. It’s kind of my security blanket.
Tiny Privacy Tip 🔒:
Do not give your name to your devices.
Give them their own unique unrelated name. Like Steve or Martha or CyberApple or MyMagicTinyPocketComputer ✨
Giving it your own name isn’t really helpful in any way to you, and through Bluetooth or WiFi scanning can make your name known to strangers in the vicinity you might not want to share your name with.
Giving weird unrelated names to your phones, computers, WiFi network, etc, is not only safer, it is also much cuter :awesome:
