I moved into a house in East london once and the landlord's agent said it was problematic but that it would be fixed up inside a couple of years. We had to go back and point out that the guy who turned the electricity on said he wouldn't live there and that every socket and light switch had scoring.

Rewired the place in six months.

@Delphi @ceilidhman This was only because the agent sent an electrician to have a look and he left in hysterics, begging us not to double plug ANYTHING.

When the rewiring was done and we had a crew crawling about under floors there would be bursts of hysterical laughter and a head would pop up out of a hole. Gesturing wildly to his colleagues to come and have a look. Further outbursts would follow. Apparently it was original Victorian DC wiring and 1950s/70s DIY AC wiring all jobbed together.

@Delphi @ceilidhman HAH! That one was great after a few years. it was literally a wreck when we moved in. So bad the first month was free because they just wanted someone in it. The plumbing also needed re-doing from scratch and that happened after two and half years.

Meanwhile, we carpeted it from scratch, redecorated the whole property, cleaned out the loft of FOUR INCHES of soot dust (lethal; I was masked the whole time) and insulated it. And did both gardens to exhibition standard. 1/2
