@wonderofscience
That is beyond cute and alien at the same time. Wonderful.

AI is getting good, but has two dead obvious spelling errors in the hero image? -

20 years ago "born digital" was a big deal, especially in library science and archives. There is nothing happening now that wasn't anticipated then.We saw the train coming, and let it roll right over us.

Well, look at search. People have asked for it for years, and it just came (thanks, btw).Quote posts are a basic element of convo on modern social media. It's a regular refrain for people to ask why they aren't here, implying they want them. It's consistently shot down by Masto devs. Claims that it's not needed or wanted. Well, if people ask for it, and it's cited as needed for journalists and such, the negative position feels like ivory tower dev.

On a fundamental level, Mastodon showed its culture. The dogged refusal of @Gargron et al to listen to what people wanted tells everyone they won't listen. It's dev from the top, not for the user.Doesn't matter that you don't have to use a feature. Doesn't matter they could have given something like quotes, but different. Doesn't matter it comes up with every onboarding wave. Insiders didn't want it, so it didn't happen.
That speaks volumes.
