Journalists expecting trust and transparency... this is a joke, right? Since they certainly don't give the general public the same courtesy.
How do I verify a journalist? And figure out where their funding and biases lay when they write articles? And how do we hold them accountable for corruption, omitting/lying about even basic facts and not being ethical in their reporting?
How many of them spread lies about the fediverse for instance? We would do better if they just didn't report on it because otherwise they give a false impression.

Also, just think about how many people in hollywood were struggling due to the strikes.

@leyonhjelm @ArdainianRight It would be less insulting if they spent their own private funds on this. But even that might just be squeezing the consumer out of pocket. To have that sort of money to waste.
No easy answer. Can't fund your way out of this as much as we'd like to think otherwise.

I always worry about the ordinary citizens caught in the crossfire who don't deserve to be put in danger or slaughtered over another ethnic religious war.
Or the future generations that are banking the current wars since all these governments are in heavy debt and only impoverish the future more.

Israel goes to war and the western governments fund them. Especially the US.
Ukraine goes to war and the western governments are funding them.
Happens the world over it seems. How much money did the US waste on keeping a government in Afghan going? That the people on the ground squandered on infrastructure, taking longer to build things because they know more money will be sent to them? We just throw money from the future at them and hope for the best.

Even affluent people are just a few months away from losing their financial security and home if they lose their job today. It puts things into perspective when you realise this as most people don't live like a poor person when they become affluent as they need to keep a good appearance for connections and more wealth.

To be honest though, they should have just recast his son since he would be older now and gone on another adventure with him, teaching his son the ropes and then pass it down from son to son.

@thatguyoverthere This sounds like we live under exactly what you said. How can they talk about living under a democracy with that? And it is so bizarre that the establishment can pressure even a prime minister out of his role. Where is the democracy in that?

I think we can safely say that people in the UK don't live in a democracy. The government keeps doing shit that ordinary citizens don't agree with or vote on. And they just aren't held accountable for their basically crimes against the people at this point.
