Normalising data research of social media is a mistake.
-
Trust the Germans to come up with confusing and dumb sayings.
-
If I have friends and acquaintances across the political spectrum that I speak with, what does this make my politics? Now I am confused about my identity after finding out that just an association, even just sitting down at a table with someone makes me whatever their politics is. But wait... aren't they also mine just from this interaction? But what am I now? I'm so confused.

@lain I need to go to castles more often to do this. Even the ruined ones, I wonder just how majestic they would have been when completed or at their peak.
-
I love how I can look at a castle or a keep or a tower, and immediately I'm thinking about how cool or defensible it would be.
-
@lain @icedquinn @Moon @romin When you put it that way, that is an interesting difference there.
Do you think that North Korea will be able to improve and become clean instead?
-
@icedquinn @Moon @romin Funny that.
Then again, I think lain went to Korea once. Not sure what that is like.

"The problem is we are running out of places to run to. I fled to a white majority place 15 years ago, and then watched as increasingly more Pakistani Muslims moved into the neighbourhood until I was the only white face left. I've fled again now, to an even smaller town, but I know it's only a matter of time. The net migration levels and difference in birth rates means in the next 30-40 years we will be a minority nationwide."
I feel this.
-
@icedquinn Makes me wonder what can really be done when it seems like the third world wants to move in.
-
@icedquinn It wouldn't surprise me if they are displacing those people by bringing them to the west either.
-
@icedquinn Yes, but then they also modernise these places. They kick the locals out and build their own buildings, easier to exploit those that remain to work for them and take the resources and profits for themselves.
-
@icedquinn I hadn't thought about that but it makes sense. Especially with how it is paid for through tariffs.
I just wondered, how did Dubai become this? You couldn't make it up.
-
@Moon @icedquinn @romin Damn. I didn't realise it was that bad.
-
@Moon @icedquinn @romin Have you visited before?
-
@Moon @icedquinn @romin I thought that you might have for business purposes or something. I'm still not sure what to make of it.
"Defamation on social media is a punishable offence in Dubai with fines up to half a million dirhams and jail term for up to 2 years. In January 2020, three Sri Lankan expats were fined 500,000 dirhams (US$136,000) each for posting defamatory Islamophobic Facebook posts."
Yikes.
-
@lain I can relate too.
-
I can't believe that we're not a hivemind with the exact same opinions on everything.
-
Isn't it awful how someone has a different opinion to yours?
-
@coolboymew @Ottovonshitpost @nobullyplz Yeah. I've heard someone refer to themselves as being queer in person too. I'm still not used to that because I tend to keep away from groups and things like this in general.
-
@coolboymew @Ottovonshitpost @nobullyplz I guess I missed that point where it meant that and went straight to the political signifier.
