@lina Lol. That must be pretty confusing. I get the impression now that my country doesn't exist in their minds, except when they want to call us evil. Otherwise we are just a mishmash. Which is easier for them to revise given how much diversity has been displaced to these lands. So much for that being an evil thing to do.
-
@lina What are you? The oppressor or the victim? Lmao.
-
@lina Actually, that sounds like Europe in a nutshell. The problem when you live long enough to see your fall.
-
@lina If you aren't careful though, doing the craziest shit will hasten your fall from grace.
-
@lina I suppose there is both to it, as it can apply to your country or yourself. Even to both at the same time if you are the reason behind the fall of your country for example. Or contribute to it in some way. We are raised in decadence now.

"Thats an US thing. There are "whites", "blacks", "asians" and "latinas". Europeans are white for them. from island to croatia, from portugal to russia. Asian is japanese, china, korea (dont know where they put the middle east and india but i think to indians or black). and latinas are from mexico to chile. They don't get, that every tribe or region in one country alone has his own history, traditions, heritages. Germany, Spain, France, Denmark, Sweden all have their own (on parts connected) history. Ghana, Nigeria, Southafrica are also diverse on their own. Japan != China != korea != Indonesia. They don't even get in to their heads, that Northafricans, aswell as South africans don't have to be dark or black.
They just group in "look a likes" and treat them differently. Thats imo rassist even tho they call it woke. If a movie in the middle ages has brits, germans (Bawarians, Franconians), saxons, french etc. the movie should be considered diverse."
Good point.

"It's really disturbing how some minority populations in America are treated like minorities even outside the US which is how crap like this could happen. People of Danish descent in America are minorities too and that means jack shit."
True this.
-
The crazy thing is that you can have reasonable or nuanced takes, and people will still call you some buzzword over it.
-
@coolboymew True, or they keep an alt here. I don't know how many accounts were permanently deleted.
-
I actually thought that there were more SPC users than there are given how long we've been around. We are closer to a medium instance even though I thought we were big... which was probably true years ago.
-
My disdain for corporatism continues.
-
"Defederation was never meant to be used as a tool to oppress opinions and blackmail instance owners, but this is what it is now used for. "
This is why you say no to the people behind blocklists. Don't let them blackmail you or decide which instances you block. You don't need them to be safe on fedi, they need you to keep their blocklist important especially if they want to show their instance/side of the fediverse as popular.
It is better to block on an individual basis as you go than to outsource it to anyone else.
-
@jeff @iska @Natanox @adiz @snott Also... just using the blocklist to find some interesting instances... probably not all of them will be great though. I think we also had a site which linked to all the known instances at one point with some technical details about them. Difficult one to maintain given how many instances come and go.
-
@adiz @iska @snott @jeff @Natanox Yeah, once the right minorities were affected... fuck the rest of us that are on the instances they have blocked and never knew about.
Blocking SPC, for instance, impacts trans people. We pretty much welcome anyone as long as they can vibe with us rather than being arrogant enough to think that they can take over, for example.

I remember reading at one point that despite much of what would later become England being overtaken by the Romans, they needed to keep a large force on the island because otherwise they would lose carriages/cargo. So there were still dangerous parts of the country, perhaps even pockets of resistance. This large force would later become a problem for Rome because you could march the force on Rome and attempt to take over. Yes, that happened too.

"The Peasants' Revolt, also named Wat Tyler's Rebellion or the Great Rising, was a major uprising across large parts of England in 1381. The revolt had various causes, including the socio-economic and political tensions generated by the Black Death in the 1340s, the high taxes resulting from the conflict with France during the Hundred Years' War, and instability within the local leadership of London.
The final trigger for the revolt was the intervention of a royal official, John Bampton, in Essex on 30 May 1381. His attempts to collect unpaid poll taxes in Brentwood ended in a violent confrontation, which rapidly spread across the southeast of the country. A wide spectrum of rural society, including many local artisans and village officials, rose up in protest, burning court records and opening the local prisons. The rebels sought a reduction in taxation, an end to serfdom, and the removal of King Richard II's senior officials and law courts."
Who rembers?
-
"Dems "Trump is a dictator"
Also Dems "I can just declare an Emergency and rule by Dictat""
Lol.
-
@Moon I've been quite well and cushioned from the drama since they blocked us.
-
@Moon @matrix When your own government who are untrustworthy double down on something like this, you know something is up.
-
@mar77i @vriska I do actually. I blame 9/11 for the heat wave we've been having today, it caused global warming. Imagine if we didn't go to war in the middle east, just how much cooler the environment would be. But most importantly it stopped my writing. That damn shadowy organisation.
