We live in a new Gilded Age, and we are on the outside looking in.
You do not need to be an economist or a historian to know that our era is an epoch of enormous class inequality. 2024 is a new Gilded Age, where affordable housing is extinct in Britain, Western Europe, Canada and the USA, and renters are a permanent underclass.

Harry's Last Stand
Covid is the plague that just won't leave, so we can get on with living our best superficial lives.
It's been four years since COVID-19- rolled into our world like a marauding army. It's still killing people- the old, those with underlying health issues and the sick I wear a mask in shops because I am one of those who has underlying health issues from a dodgy heart to fibrotic lungs.

In the before times, I'd probably get to live into my late 70s before clocking it. But in this present reality, who knows.

It was anger, solidarity and socialism that built the Welfare State and kept the West safe from authoritarianism until neoliberalism corrupted everything.
Humans are hardwired to keep hope alive and believe that tomorrow can be better than today. For the poor, it seldom is because when there is no social safety net; your poverty can't be outrun. It doesn't stop people from trying.

Neo-liberalism turned the Welfare State into Bolton Abbey-a beautiful ruin.
It is a beautiful ruin from long ago that was looted by the entitled and left to rot by successive governments, including Labour.
The 1% stole the birth right to a life free of want from the generations that followed mine, and that can't continue for much longer without Britain returning to my past.

  Neo-liberalism turned the Welfare State into Bolton Abbey. It is a beautiful ruin from long ago that was looted by the entitled and left to rot by successive governments, including Labour. The 1% stole the birth right to a life free of want from the generations that followed mine, and that can't continue for much longer without Britain returning to my past. If the 21st century is forcibly returned to my past, it will be more brutal and bloodier than it was for me- so many years ago. This time, there will be no mercy because the state now has the ability to control all facets of your life. It will be impossible to resist or mobilise as we did in the 1930s and 1940s. You must act now or live under the boot of the entitled forevermore.
