    @coolboymew @tyler @DrBtc I can see this making sense for kayaks if you're on holiday and have no means of transporting it. So you pay for both the kayak rent and its transportation to wherever you are. Anything smaller it doesn't make any sense for. Climbing gear maybe if you're overseas and it doesn't fit in your luggage? I don't know.

You can get it shiny with sand paper and wd40 (I've done a few saw-restores this way) but honestly you will save yourself a lot of time and effort by getting an angle grinder with a flap disc/pad, especially for a massive hunk of metal that doesn't have any fine details you have to care about.

    @emma @Inginsub @bot I remember trying one of these little flap disc attachments for drills (for people who are too cheap to buy a dremel) and I ended up finding sandpaper was easier purely because of the difference in surface area. I don't remember being in any danger of putting a dip in the surface however (mind you I was being careful because I had the same fear you did), I actually ended up swapping to one of the harder nobby ones in the kit only to be similarly frustrated.

    @bot @Inginsub @emma I only sort of know because I wanted an anvil at one point and did research. A bit of railroad track is your cheapest "good" option. Harbor freight and other companies notoriously sell cheap cast iron anvils but they're shit for blacksmithing apparently.

    @emma @Inginsub @bot high carbon steel like tool steel (i.e what they use to make chisels) is harder than stainless. You could also try using a bit of railroad track (check your local classifieds or fb marketplace or steal it lol).
