Did you know that @pixelfed has a feature that highlights posts you've shared or liked on this day a year (or years) ago?

While currently limited to desktop web, I'm working to bring this feature to our app and mobile apis!

✨ Pixelfed Curated Onboarding is nearly finished, and will be shipping later this weekend!

tl;dr :pixelfed: admins can curate sign-ups when open registrations are closed

- Inspired by Mastodon with a familiar flow

- Easily request more info, users can easily respond with the details using special links

- Activity Log tracks events for easy admin

- Customize the accept/reject messages

- Users can share custom join links that auto follow their accounts

Forks fucking rule, I'm happy to see this. Open source is crucial to the fediverse, and while we all might not agree on everything, it feels amazing to desire to work with forks

Y'all are the real winners, even more so when devs like me do the unthinkable and bring awareness to forks

@pixelfed @Mastodon Btw, I'm adding the ability for admins to request additional information (which dispatches an email to the pre-user) and includes a link back to a special page where they can respond with additional information.

Admin/mods can also comment and conversate in the admin dashboard on each application

One last thing, users will be able to share personalized links that show to user who invited them, and when accepted, will auto-follow that specific account!

It's about time we stepped out of the "federated instagram" shadow

While it will remain familiar, I'm eager to build on our Collections (think Pinterest), Exif data (flickr, 500px) and Portfolios (deviantart) features

We are not abandoning the social photo sharing aspects of IG

Rather we will be extending beyond them to provide new and exciting ways to share photos + videos, more details soon!

let's show them some appreciation, Mastodon and Threads get a lot of credit for the ActivityPub spec they built upon and the AP authors don't get the credit they deserve

I should have mentioned that the @pixelfed Parental Controls feature is meant for children that are 13 (USA) or 16 (EU) years or older.

We are going to eventually add support for children younger than that, but it requires a lot more work and consideration.

We want to assemble a panel of parents to help steward this feature, more details soon!

After some careful consideration, I have decided to block threads.net on pixelfed.social and .art by default

However, users will have the ability to unblock the domain

Soon we will be selectively enforcing authorized fetch for accounts with domain blocks so as to provide the best of both worlds.

(I'm also shipping a command for :pixelfed: admins to easily add user domain blocks for all local users)

We have almost everything implemented, except hashtag following and reblogs which I can finish later today

We are discussing implementing partial Signed Fetch validation to enforce domain blocks at the AP level for accounts with domain blocks (nobody does this yet 😉 )

Auto Alt-Text and Caption Translations are popular requests for the @pixelfed app

The only way I'm comfortable implementing these are only if it can be on device, sending media or captions to an API is unacceptable for privacy reasons

That being said, I am making progress on this, though its limited to a few languages now, I look forward to shipping and expanding support for other langs
