The many political reasons aside, X's change to its Terms of Service are damaging for creatives, as their work - and all your data infact - is now training #AI.

Just got back from my dentist. Her boss has introduced #AI into the clinic. It claims to automatically detect many conditions and right away it found 4 issues affecting my teeth.

The only downside was that its findings were 100% wrong, which my dentist of many years' experience spotted immediately.

This is absolutely wretched. It's like throwing a party and only inviting disposable plastic cutlery. It's like desperately needing the approval of your toothbrush and refrigerator. It reeks of dejection and cringing loneliness.

I just sent a letter demanding AI companies remove my works from their training data. Use the Authors Guild's letter template to send your own. But please do augment it with your own details (I added my publication info. And called them parasites)

I'm re-reading Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year. I'd forgotten there's a section on how, during such crises, people become prone to irrational beliefs and charlatans promoting, for want of a better expression, 'conspiracy theories' and anti-scientific ideas, and how these obsessional beliefs engender paranoia and the threat of group violence against 'non believers'. Maybe it's just something that (some) humans do in such times...

Posts are called 'Yarns', editing a Yarn is called Darning, threads are called Tapestries, pile-ons are Shag Piles, blocking is called Black-Sheeping.

Merry Christmas, #neurodivergent celebrants! So many autistic people *want* to be around people today but find it difficult, so have chosen to be on their own. Others are with family & friends right now, but are quickly overstimulated, and need to some quiet downtime to recuperate a bit. Either way, I'm on the #JoinIn hashtag, if you want a chat.
