So many assumptions I once had, such as people accept science as the defacto method of understanding the universe, or that we prefer white collar to blue collar roles.

This video makes a great point. The vitriol migrants face comes from a desire to claw back the blue collar work from developing countries that previous generations farm out so their offspring can have easier lives. But that requires education

Another assumption I once had is people like education & governments will provide it.

It's easy to get wrapped up in the consumerism of Christmas, and all the hype and ceremony. But don't forget the importance of the season. It's all about two tyrannosauruses laughing at a table saw.
