Been really enjoying this latest @yogscast series called The Cult, which is essentially a game of Werewolf with production value. Two episodes out so far.
@smallpatatas@mike Ultimately I would not use the words "leak" when talking about data that is being broadcast to the public web. A "leak-proof" Mastodon server would have to go beyond authorized fetch mode, and be effectively unusable by logged-out visitors. On the user level, the most effective way to control where your posts go is to post followers-only.
@smallpatatas@mike There is delivery and there is retrieval. Delivery is real-time distribution, the other is on-demand retrieval of public resources. The behaviour of user-level and server-level domain blocks is identical on both axes, but retrieval of public resources cannot be prevented unless authorized fetch mode is enabled, which comes with certain drawbacks.
I was on @mike's Dot Social podcast to talk about Mastodon, #Threads (not the 1984 movie), and the social web. If you've got questions about any of those things, maybe we've covered them!
Speaking of mastodon.online, there’s been another visual update on the web app, so let me know how you like it. Yes, it will come to mastodon.social soon enough too.
Looks like the rate at which mastodon.online users follow others has increased by 56% after the algorithm change (from 1.2K per day to 1.9K per day), so that's pretty good considering follow recommendations are kind of buried in the interface.
