@jamesbritt@rdnielsen They used to be buried on the explore page under the people tab (before that, under "for you" tab), and the home feed would instead have a banner at the top saying "This is your home base in Mastodon" with a link to trending posts and follow recommendations, if your feed was determined to be updating too slow.
@jamesbritt@rdnielsen Please elaborate. Mastodon has always had follow recommendations. As far as I'm aware the home feed is still "non-algorithmic" in colloquial terms (of course, reverse-chronological listing of posts from people you follow is also an algorithm).
@rdnielsen Yes, it appears above the first post that's more than 4 hours old if there is one on initial page load. It's a mix of different algorithms, like people who you follow, follow, or profiles similar to the ones you followed most recently, and some other ones.
@mathewi You'll be able to have Threads users in your Mastodon feed and interact with them naturally soon, you can already follow some of them, that's the idea behind the protocol this platform is built on.
@Jonathanglick If I'm reading it right, it sounds like iframes embedded through OEmbed? That's how Mastodon shows YouTube/SoundCloud/Bandcamp players in posts.
Thank you to everyone who came by to say hi, share feedback, and buy our merch at #FOSDEM, it was awesome. Feel free to tag me in the selfies we took together if you haven't already, and use the hashtag #merchtodon if you want to show our merch to the world.
