@arstechnica These disaster-in-waiting right-wing court cases do not reach the Supreme Court by accident. Years of Republican organizing and funding and pushing purpose-built cases through the lower courts got us here.

The extreme rightwingers on the Court are hellbent on turning the country over to elite corporatists and crooked amateur-hour conservatives in state legislatures.

The deck is stacked. The only recourse is getting a new deck. That means destroying the Republican Party.

@nixCraft Currently using XFCE4 because I found a theme I like. I don't care about memory use. Gnome on Wayland with a laptop touchpad beats, imo, anything not sold by Apple. I'd be happy using Gnome if it would allow me to make it something I enjoy looking at.

@feditips Not questioning the why of it, just asserting it is a hindrance to increased adoption and that I don't think any amount of explaining to people who are already here is going to help attract and keep people who are not here.

No amount of education about instances and servers and what-not will attract and retain people who think of social media as an app and, justifiably, have zero interest in infrastructure.

There's going to be a lot spillover from folks who, deservedly, loathe the owner of SpaceX, saying silly uninformed things about this flight.

@nixCraft Google's effort to thwart ad blockers demonstrates it's an advertising sales business and that search, youtube, and everything else it does are devices to leverage content Google does not create as a sea upon which to float billable ads.

None of us are obligated to accept Google's ads "because content creators need to be paid". The ads are there because 1) Google can't figure out another way to make money, and, 2) Most of the "content" Google platforms isn't worth paying for.

@feditips If I follow X, I want to see all X's posts, whether or not they are replies.

if developers want to give users an option to hide replies to others by people they follow, that's fine. Developers should not arbitrarily hide posts from users.

@feditips That's a weakness. If users want to see everything posted by an account they follow, they should not need to find that account's profile page and go looking.

Especially for time sensitive matters and events. If I follow someone specifically to see their posts about a news event, I want to see them in my timeline, along with posts from the other accounts I follow for the same reason.
