There is already a canon female version of Link which kind of caused a controversy years ago and seems like Nintendo pushed her under the rug and don't talk much about her now. Though she is actually a separate character as well as straight so yuritrannies will be dissappointed.

Yes, maybe the movies too if you want 'closure' and want to know what happened to the inspector after he left Japan.
You don't need to watch S2 to understand the movies iirc too(other than that MC became the new leader of the task force and she got new members too).
