The latest Philosophy Tube video is about cities ... with a twist!
This is a great video and delves into some important topics. And I was very happy to collab with Abi to make it happen!

Every time I try to book an international train in Europe it's full or near capacity. They sell out within days of becoming available.
Demand is way up, but supply has been the same for year. We need more trains!!

The only thing I hate more than giant SUVs and trucks in our cities is the bullshit discussion around giant SUVs and trucks in our cities.
Here's my take on the situation in my latest video, now available on Nebula.

I'm getting fed up with Mastodon. It needs a better algorithm.
I keep seeing people claiming that algorithms are evil, but that's not true. Algorithms can be evil, but they can also be really useful.
My Mastodon feed is overwhelmed with post from the same people, because they post most often. So good content becomes a needle in a haystack.
This chronological timeline is not a good social media experience and I find myself checking Mastodon less and less.
Is there any hope of this changing?
Oh, wow. My latest video is my most-watched in a while!
I was totally expecting it to be a niche topic, but I guess people really do enjoy watching 1950s automobile industry propaganda! 😂
This video was middle-of-the-road for existing viewers, but hugely popular with new audiences, and it brought in a bunch of new subscribers.
Confirming again that I have literally no idea how a video will perform when I release it. 🤷♂️
I tried the "Full Self-Driving (Beta)" on a Model Y in Toronto. It was terrifying.
I turned off "aggressive" and "assertive" modes and "drive 20% higher than speed limit" (why are these even options?)
It tried to drive in the bike lane to avoid traffic multiple times, it got totally confused by angled parking, it had to do an emergency stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian when turning right, plus dozens of other issues.
At my destination it rammed right into a snowbank. Why is this legal?!
This image of highschool kids walking along a 55 mph (>85km/h) stroad with no sidewalk was posted to my subreddit.
It is absolutely disgusting that American cities, and the traffic engineering profession, have let this happen.

I have absolutely no sympathy for defenders of car-dependency.
American cities are not just designed *differently*, they are designed *wrong*.
People commented on my last video that increasing the cost of street parking was unfair to the poor. Which is a stupid take.
What's unfair to the poor is car-dependency.
Here's what Amsterdam announced today:

An old guy who has been places and seen things.Do not re-post my posts (or screenshots of my posts) on other platforms. These posts are meant only for Mastodon.
