#OnThisDay in #hacking #history, 1990, the Secret Service raided the offices of Steve Jackson Games, a maker of roleplaying games, in Chicago.

Two employees of the company were Erik Bloodaxe & The Mentor, at the time infamous hackers. The SS claimed they thought a Cyberpunk role-playing tabletop was a hacking tutorial.

In September of 1998 a group calling themselves “Hacking for Girliez” or “H4ck1ng f0r G1rl13z” defaced the front page of the New York Times and, after a ton of rumors swirling around at the time that I still remember, seemed to get away scot-free?

An example of how digging deeper can change your understanding of a whole story from the past. I had thought that the 414s, hackers busted in 1983, first met in the scouts, in fact they met on a BBS "online" & then joined the scouts together.
