@pixelfed is this number still pretty current, or is there a place for me to check to see the current number? I'm working on a little article and want to have the most current number of users. Thanks!
None of my recent posts on @pixelfed have shown up in the #fediverse yet, which is odd. Is this a known issue for other folks or some mistake I'm making?
I'm sick of justifying ethical behavior in terms of profit. We use phrases like "adding alt-text brings more customers to your site" or "protected bike lanes increase revenue for local businesses."
You should add alt-text descriptions to images because it helps people.
We need to build bike lanes because it makes cities safer and more accessible.
Reduce carbon emissions because it's the right thing to do! Discussing these things in purely economic terms misses the point.
Tonight, we played a few games of Nego, a strategy game with cats. The rules are very simple, but there are some nice twists. The design of the physical pieces was our favorite part.
The game was designed by Yuka Morii, a Japanese clay artist and Pokemon illustrator.
I enjoyed it, but my partner felt it was boring. We both felt the game sort of plays itself as spaces become more limited. We both like it as a piece of art, though. The game is available here: https://www.japantrendshop.com/nego-cats-board-game-p-8267.html
My interview with @pfefferle about the ActivityPub Plugin for #WordPress is live now.
This episode is a great starting point for WordPressers who would like to know more about the fediverse. We kick it off discussing the basic concepts of federation, then get into how you can connect your blog to the fediverse using #ActivityPub.
While recording this interview #WordPress and the fediverse, I had no idea that Automattic was only a few days away from launching ActivityPub integration for all WordPress.com users.
Here's a section where I asked @pfefferle about scalability issues that might happen if a large server (like WP.com) suddenly joined the fediverse.
These designs are available for public use. You can use them on stickers or shirts or whatever. I'll drop the full images and their license info in the comments below.
"Move Purposefully and Fix Things" (Public Domain Work)
A twist on Facebook's "Move Fast and Break Things" motto. I designed this in 2018 after reading a presentation from DJ Patil about a code of ethics for data scientists https://www.oreilly.com/radar/doing-good-data-science/
