So after yet another stupid fucking fight I've decided she's getting a vacuum cleaner instead of nightstands. She would rather I spend my very small amount of free time doing something other than building things so fuck it I'm done at least with her gift which was going to be the most involved. She probably wouldn't even like the style I went with anyway. She's said before she wanted a new vacuum and would be happy with it as a gift so here we are.

@feld oh and also I'm not "quite the carpenter" but I do enjoy it and I'm not completely incompetent. I can hide my fuckups fairly well which I've been told is the mark of a good carpenter so there is that.

Working out the model for the nightstand in openscad. I think I might spend some of this rainy day trying to figure out a way to draw mortice and tenon joints using difference. I figure if you can difference one module against another you might be able to pass 2 modules into another module and have the output module be the two modules with one having a mortice and the other a tenon. This should work for both through tenons and internal tenons as long as the modules intersect only where the joint goes

@feld our bed and dresser are cherry and were made by my grandfather so I'm going to try to match his dovetails to keep everything looking like a set.

@kekkerel next year I'm going to hyperfocus on getting my bench done and setting the shop up a little better. I've made a few improvements like this "tail vice" and some dogs but really I need something a little more sturdy. The table is on wheels which is part of my problem but also an advantage because I do need to move it around right now. I was thinking about swapping the wheels for the ones you can retract so I can get it down on the ground. It's really an assembly table my neighbor gave me when he moved away.

I have half of a bench top glued up, but there is a lot to do to it before it's usable so it has to wait until Christmas is past.

So today I made a hole in the side of the table I'm using as a bench in the garage to use a bar clamp as a tail vice. I am going to screw some wood to the mouth and add some dog holes in the table to clamp against but it works.
