I already have a nice splitting maul and felling axe, so making this into a smaller handtool sounds fun. who knows maybe I'll never use it :) -

@freemo @niclas @roboneko It's literally just you. I don't have these retarded back and forths with other people, and I'm sure there are plenty of others who disagree with me on the internet. Part of the problem is that you like to pretend you are an expert in just about every field but struggle to spell so I have to think you are mostly full of shit.
In both of these cases (this and the issue with animal morals) you have confused your opinion or beliefs for facts, and then condesended me for holding a different set of opinions or beliefs and been confounded by my reaction. You have no idea what I actually know about any subject because so far we've argued over stupid fucking opinions and you can't tell the difference. When someone posted a link to a talk by Milton Friedman you wanted no part of an actual fact based discussion. Funny that.
I've learned quite a bit in other discussions around here. You just think I should accept you as a person of superior intellect and therefore correct by default. I think you are a dolt. Continuing to tell me about how your opinions are facts doesn't change my mind. -

@EssentialUtinsil @niclas I have a good machete now, and it is quite useful. I've cut down 4-5" thick trees with it. I haven't tried to split seasoned oak with it but I imagine it could be used. I feel like a hatchet might be easier to work with on a smaller piece where my hands might be a bit closer to where I need to chop, but I don't know. -

@niclas I also think a hatchet would be pretty useful to have around. I have some less regular wood that would be good for small projects and having a hatchet would make it a little easier to pair it down into useable stock. -

@roboneko @niclas @freemo my wage relative to other people is actually on average higher by a fair margin. I still feel pinched by the increase in cost of goods across the board over at least the past few years. I can't imagine making half of what I do and being able to live as comfortably as I do now (and I'm not even that comfy)
I'm being a little dramatic saying that I was personally in a better place financially 20+ years ago. I personally did not have the same flexibility I have today, but I was able to pay 400 a month to rent a 3 floor 5br house (in the ghetto but still). In the 1980s my Dad was able to bring home 20-30k and still afford to buy a house (albeit one that needed significant repairs).
It's funny because on the other hand many people are walking around with over a thousand dollars of electronics on their person which is just insane when you actually stop and think about it. -

I have an axe head with a busted handle, but instead of making another full length handle I'd like to turn it into a hatchet because I think it'll be a lot more useful since I have other axes and no hatchets. I figure I'd rather make my own handle since I have the wood and there isn't a rush. I'll probably use black locust, but I need to figure out the size and shape so I can make a stencil. The axe handle I took out is a fine shape but obviously too long. I wonder how far off I'd be if I just cut it down to the length I want and go from there. -

@roboneko @niclas @freemo this is actually a good point. Economic theory is nothing but peoples opinions. I don't know if a best formula even exists. I do think that my money in early 2ks had more purchasing power than my money today. I make significantly more than I did then and have less flexibility in many ways.
This reaction though is pretty specific to freemo though. His particular methods of debate make me want to hit him. It's a regular thing. -

Even if I pull specific economic theories to discuss the "best" one seems primarily opinion based and my opinion isn't likely to change as I suspect is true of someone who believed modern monetary theory or some other retarded idea is the best.
