It's an uphill battle because the fossil fuel industry is working overtime to INCREASE the amount of plastics in our lives, convincing every company to shove more plastic into everything. This is because they fear reduced FF usage (solar,EVs): their plans are to *triple* plastics use by 2050 😡
my friends, I say to you, we need to reduce plastics in our lives
"nearly 60% of about 250 people who were undergoing heart surgery had micro- or nanoplastics in a main artery. Those who did were 4.5 times more likely to experience a heart attack, a stroke or death"
Company execs everywhere are so enthusiastic about AI because they profit from the erasure of moral/legal responsibility that AI provides as a service.
Start sending CEOs to jail for the shit their "AI" does and we'll start to see responsible use (maybe).
(None of which erases the fact that most gen-AI is made of industrial theft and crimes to begin with)
Not only do not obey, do not assume there's nothing you can do, that you're helpless against the all powerful regime. Yes,they will do terrible things. But they can't stop you doing a thousand good ones. Get your oxygen mask secure first, use the tools already in place, don't assume it's pointless to <insert action here> just because they'll make it illegal later--that's a good reason to do it now. Don't game out ways to give in before they're even in office.
The next time someone tells you some tech is "inevitable" please laugh directly in their face. And then tell them that's been used as an excuse for exploitation forever, it's a red flag, and if they were smart, they'd avoid it, well, like the plague. But we know how well that's going.
I'm increasingly alarmed at the new climate geoengineering projects—the justifications are always "we have to do SOMETHING" (no matter the risks) yet that "something" is never creative, community building, activist, wrestling power from the oligarchs or simply STOP BURNING THINGS.
Nope, the only solution is some grand technology intervention YET AGAIN in the biosphere.
We need to RETHINK "appropriate" technology usage not double down on the hubris of "conquering nature".
Back in Feb, when Grammarly said they were going to think about incorporating AI, I immediately canceled my account and uninstalled. And now they've actually done it.
I'm sharing because with everything going on, writers might not realize this is happening.
