Imagine for a moment how ridiculous that is. We don’t have “diet cake” or “diet milk shakes”. Why diet soda?

First group: Is nothing new. Users hate having the layout of a familiar GUI changed on them. So much so that companies actually implement redesigns slowly in piecemeal so that there is no singular jarring change for anyone to point at.

But mostly it’s probably just an excuse for them to be lazy and to not have to take responsibility for their digital presence.

Second group: jfl. On the web it used to be the norm to have a different handle everywhere. The people who really care to interact with you will continue to do so regardless of whether your handle is etched into stone.

I once discovered a site which banned my IP after I reloaded it too many times trying to get the right assets loaded in uMatrix. It considered me to be a bot. A VPN from a new IP got me the rest of the way.

Two years ago an independent musician put together an excellent atmospheric musical score inspired by Minetest. Each is polished and professional. I placed the works into my local copy of the ambience mod so that a track plays periodically and was reminded at just how much a background scoring can really tie a game together. If it were up to me, this would be part of Minetest Game.

Things to really like about Alpine Linux

• Text mode installer only. You decide on a GUI later, if you even want one.
• The repositories contain libre and OSS software exclusively, with exception for device firmwares.
• 6 month release cycle (for ex. as opposed to Debian’s 1.5~2 year cycle)
• Stable releases and rolling “edge” release (as opposed to Debian’s Experimental+Unstable+Testing preceding Stable, then a long chain of OldStable, OldOldStable…).
• Incredibly quick to boot, install software and administrate. APK combines the download and installation steps.

It will probably be joining the other tools in my toolbox. @alpinelinux
