so about Yowza, the "world's #1 social media platform" that suddenly popped up in my fedi feed, which, at first glance, just looks like a total scam:
- it's not actually "Yowza", it's just a heavily-modified Mastodon instance that's changed to a degree where it's completely unable to federate with other servers (removal of public/remote endpoint, no "about" section, missing profiles directory (although the respective API endpoint for it exists), etc. i don't even think it has ActivityPub in place). i even tried visiting a user's profile on this instance and it yielded a 404.
- Cards Against Humanity LLC is actually in violation of the AGPLv3 license due to failure to provision the source code to the public. the base Mastodon source includes a license that require that users be compliant by effectively disclosing the entire source code of a fork to the general public, and it appears that CAH LLC has intentionally done the direct opposite by attempting to remove most (if not all) traces of Mastodon branding (N.B.: the error page literally still calls itself Mastodon as of writing) and additionally axing the link footer which is also supposed to have links to the original base source code.
EDIT: they didn't even try to remove the slightest hint of Mastodon branding, the locale json has references to itself all over the place and there's still logo resources for it present in the actual instance
