@irie@McMongoose I think the optimistic, colorful, and pro-family aspects seen in Japanese pop culture (not all of it, but it's certainly there in a good portion of it) are offensive to miserable libs. They can't fully accept that their world project failed, that they were played and betrayed by banking elites; they despise seeing thin and healthy women that don't look like they do, and they hate to see the depiction of a complete, happy, pro-family society. It's like a vampire recoiling from a cross. stop hammer time.png increase status by T-posing.png
First off I should say that some of the criticisms are valid - this is just an okay movie overall. The writing should have been a little tighter and the Phoebe/Melody subplot has a moment where Phoebe does something extremely dangerous without a strong enough motivation. All these quibbles don't matter at all though. I'm a fan of the '84 movie and the cartoon, and this feels like a superbig episode of the cartoon series (particularly with the Ghost Corps research organization that Winston funded). I'm actually really happy with how it turned out overall and it was fun to see all the characters, including Janine, suit up to fight the Big Bad. Towards the end of the film, Peter Venkman slaps the side of the Containment Unit and says, "I knew you had one left in you!" That's how the movie feels - a pleasant reunion with friends old and new. It also continues the story of the original and allows the old team to work alongside the new without issue. Even if the original team has clocked some miles, they want to continue busting ghosts, and we want that to do that too. This movie is fan service instead of fan disservice.
Rating: you could wait for it on streaming/torrent _unless_ you are a fan of the '84 movie or the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. If you are a fan of either, or both, have fun with this in the theatre.
@CenturianFrend really boring movies like Maestro (2023) and Moneyball (2011) can provide relief from insomnia image.png

Heavens FeelI taught many classes after pulling all-nighters to teach in Japan. Love Live Unit Koshien was an amazing show. This weekend was very satisfying while also exhausting. While I wait for the melatonin to do its stuff, I wish you all well and say that I shall commence work upon the Starlit Marmalade vol 2 translation very soon.
Despite the closeness of the date, this is not an April Fool's announcement. I mean it.
@berkberkman@mushroom_soup Probably Dagger Morse from Show by Rock! As a corrupted music producer and manager, he manipulated some of his own staff, turning them into monsters, summoned the main character of the series in an attempt to corrupt her into another tool for accomplishing his goals, and tried to drain an entire city of all its energy. Since Kitty-chan and her friends sing sometimes, maybe he could try to influence and corrupt them as well. Or he could sell them out for money ( if he felt like it) . image.png image.png
