@dcc On a different note, ever checked out this Mitra thing? https://codeberg.org/silverpill/mitra You probably won't like the fact that it's in Rust, but I don't care. The requirements seem even more modest than that of Plemora, but it seems just as featureful. It doesn't have a frontend…. Well, have one that requires Node which is a no go for me, but it supports MastoAPI and I would be fine using Bloat.
@dcc Although my memory requirements seem to only be diminishing as of recent, I agree, 14 is probably too little for a server. This was just for the sake of the joke 😅 @realman543@m0xEE@curiousthinkerunderground
@newt@dick@adiz@threat Well, that's a lot if you don't have plenty of time! A lot of people don't have company-provided lunches and they can't afford having a lunch at a Cafe if they are saving every penny — they have to cook their lunch too. And breakfast — you can of course not have it, but if you're eating bad food irregularly, that's even worse. All in all — a lot of time! Most prefer to spend it on their hobbies.
@newt@dick@adiz@threat Corporate overlords? I'm not even employed at the moment: I can enjoy cooking all day everyday and still have time left to spend on Fedi 😂 But even when I was, I could afford way more than an average person could. Let's not forget that at least three of us aren't married and work in the field where the amount of effort you put into your work might cause a lot of stress, but also gets disproportionately rewarded.
@newt@adiz …but I might be under the wrong impression here — for example, I was quite shocked by how common cancer in the US is. You can have better diet even spending relatively little if you cook yourself, but a lot of people probably don't have the luxury of time to spend on this so they resort to some sort of fast food. So yeah, there are many people who look older, I don't look my age either — but I don't encounter these people on the same social media I'm on🤷
@newt@adiz Yeah, diet, lifestyle and quality of healthcare contribute a lot — it became apparent when Russia sanctioned European goods (in response to sanctions that couldn't affect most people 🤦) — people on the streets started looking worse in just two years: food, drugs and spending vacation where most used to became less affordable. That is why I expect things to be a little better in the US and Western Europe…
@newt@dick@adiz@threat We aren't really representative of what the average working person is and might simply be unaware of what challenges said person is facing. Sure, health is important. You know it, I know it — enables you to enjoy more things and enjoy them longer. But what the motivation for our average person would be? Enjoy more grind? 😏
@Anachron I have an old ThinkPad T43, which has a really old BT adapter and I can't make it paid with a Bluetooth speaker every other device is able to use. I was going to give up: it's indeed old after all, but I have to try this first! Thanks!
@Anachron Yeah, worth a try. It used to work long ago when Bluetooth LE didn't even exist and the whole stack was way simpler, maybe bluez attempts to do with this adapter things it doesn't support and fails. I can pair it with phones and other computers, BT input devices even, but audio seems to pose an issue for some reason 🤷
@kirby@dcc And I believe they have even fixed it now, it is possible to prevent interacting with the sessions that you haven't personally authorized, but you have to enable it for each room and for every session of yours individually — far from perfect solution, could've been better, probably this way to prevent breaking compatibility.
@kirby Leaking presence to the servers of participants of a multi-user room that I'm in is the thing I'm the least concerned about TBH, XMPP doesn't do it because the rooms aren't distributed and only exist on the server they were created on. A lot of people do not seem to understand this: XMPP doesn't have a more secure implementation of the feature — it simply doesn't have this feature at all. @dcc
@dcc Of course you can, just create two person room with encryption disabled! If they weren't created with encryption enabled by default, few would be using it and it would defeat the purpose. And how is it less secure? It's literally the same algorithm. @kirby
@kirby It's a price to pay for proper encryption that works with multiple sessions🤷 XMPP crowd was making fun of Matrix for this, but that is just how Double Ratchet works — now it got implemented in popular XMPP clients and it turned out that it's even worse than it was in Matrix and before that it "just worked" simply because nothing was encrypted.
@Hyolobrika Centralised body can hinder peer-to-peer network from functioning, just as it can do with anarchy. Not every p2p network threatens centralised authority that is why no action it taken against most of them, anarchy on the other hand…
@catto That is why I have JS disabled by default in uBO and I only see a spinning something when I open a Misskey instance — so I see this is a Misskey instance and have the opportunity to just close the tab 🤭
NoneJust in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
