Video (see previous post) has emerged of a gang rape of a #Palestinian prisoner by guards at the Sde Teiman detention facility in the Negev desert, southern #Israel.
Ten soldiers were ultimately arrested for the rape on July 29, in a case that has rocked Israeli society. The soldiers belong to a unit known as Force 100, which is tasked with guarding the Sde Teiman facility, according to Haaretz
Military prosecutors released three of the arrested soldiers on August 4, adding to the two previously released by investigators following a military court hearing in Kfar Yona on July 30, at which protesters gathered in support of the soldiers under arrest.
Bezalel Smotrich demanded “an immediate criminal investigation to locate the leakers of the trending video that was intended to harm the reservists and that caused tremendous damage to Israel in the world and to exhaust the full severity of the law against them”.
Following the arrest of the reservists on July 29, far-right mobs, some of which included government ministers, stormed the facility at Sde Teiman.

#Israeli officials have obstructed a UN investigation into alleged sexual crimes committed by Hamas fighters during the 7 October 2023 Al-Aqsa Flood operation, fearing this would open the door to a probe into the rampant allegations of sexual violence against Palestinians inside Israeli torture camps.

According to a report by Israeli daily Haaretz, Tel Aviv rejected a request from Pramila Patten, the #UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on #SexualViolence in Conflict, to investigate the allegations against #Hamas after she established that a necessary condition would be access to Israeli detention centers to probe claims against Israeli soldiers.

Nevertheless, since the start of the Israeli genocide in #Gaza, #humanrights organizations have documented dozens of accounts of the rampant sexual violence inflicted on #Palestinians inside Israeli detention centers.

And now the real face of #zionazis: On 27 August, Channel 14 hosted one of the Sde Teiman guards accused of raping Palestinians on one of its programs. The soldier stated, “The military police treated us really nice... You see the support … With a hand on their heart, like, telling you ‘thank you’!”

#Germany 's federal intelligence agency classified the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (#BDS) movement as a suspected extremist organization this week.

This new designation will allow German authorities to monitor BDS activists and recruit informants within the organization.

#Israel has also poured tens of millions of shekels into combating BDS. Germany has now become the latest country to join what is commonly known as "the anti-BDS movement."

Unidentified #hackers reportedly accessed the Berlin International #Film #Festival’s (#Berlinale) Instagram account and posted infographics calling for a #ceasefire in #Gaza. Though the organization immediately deleted the posts and published a notice disavowing the statement, screenshots had already gone viral on social media, adding fuel to the festival’s controversy as several #German officials have publicly denounced several category winners for calling for a ceasefire in their closing ceremony speeches.
A number of Berlinale’s own workers issued a statement calling for a ceasefire in Gaza earlier this month, followed by over 100 participating filmmakers across various categories signing off on a list of demands for the festival to acknowledge the artists who withdrew their entries and to “confront censorship and the silencing of critical perspectives in the cultural sector in Germany,” among other points.

Is Germany’s stance on Gaza leading artists to avoid one of Europe’s top film festivals?

According to the Berlin Film Festival’s new director, that may be the case.

Tricia Tuttle, who previously ran the BFI London Film Festival and succeeds Carlo Chatrian and Mariëtte Rissenbeek after having been appointed by Germany’s Culture Minister Claudia Roth, is about to helm her first edition this coming February. She has said that the impression #Germany is giving with regards to controlling free speech on the #MiddleEast conflict is directly affecting her first edition in charge, and that there are fears that criticism of Israel would be condemned as antisemitism in Germany.

Last month, the German parliament passed a resolution on the protection of Jewish life, a controversial move that has led opponents to say that it equates criticism of Israel with #antisemitism.

“People are really uncertain about it. And I’ve talked to artists who are questioning whether they want to come,” she added.

A video released by B'Tselem shows several masked Israeli settlers threatening the community of Khirbet Wadi a-Rakhim in the South Hebron Hills in the occupied #WestBank on 24 August.

The #Israeli_Settlers had arrived with about 20 cows to graze in a barley field belonging to a Palestinian family.

Carrying clubs, the masked settlers approached one of the Palestinian family's homes, swore at family members and claimed that the land, house, and nearby well was theirs.

One of the settlers, identified as Shem Tov Luski can be seen threatening one of the family members with rape, referencing the rape of #Palestinian detainees at the hands of Israeli soldiers inside #SdeTeiman #prison.

The residents and international activists who were there called the police, however they did not send any officers.
