There are a number of organisations trying to protect LGBTQ+ people in Uganda as well as to help them to leave. This is a large country and there is no question of getting 'everyone' (= millions) out.

There has been international media coverage of a totalitarian bill passed by the Ugandan parliament but in many such stories the situation right now in Uganda is not made clear 2/n

Media reports say that President Museveni has not signed the recent bill. This is true but I think a bit misleading. Perhaps due to the present moral panic, other laws are already being used to much the same end. One example is linked below: two women arrested for promoting homosexuality.

In the last couple of months there has been an extreme rise in discrimination and physical violence against LGBTI+ people in Uganda, driven by sadly familiar grim conspiracy theories.

It is not wrong to think that this is something happening in many places. I think the case in Uganda is exceptionally rapid and also very extreme. 1/n
