    This already works; it's not a shell or emacs shortcut, ^H is ASCII 8, a backspace.

    I don't know why the opposition to adding keyboard navigation, but I don't really miss it. I think it's really easy to hack the editor so it doesn't bother me much.

    @mint @PurpCat @fba @lina @pernia It looks like a misdemeanor conviction under CA Penal Code 647.6 ("You didn't touch the kid but you were probably gonna") can result in a anything from probation to a year with no priors, I figure other states are probably similar, so it's possible they didn't check his computer and he was doing half-time (non-violent offense) on a six-month sentence. Something short-time like that, they sometimes don't even take you in directly, they just tell you to report to custody Friday or something, so you have a little time to make arrangements, like telling fedi you have some legal trouble and will be gone a few months.

    I mean, this is all speculation, all I know is he said he was gonna be gone a few months and was.

    Society collapses, I'll be fine, but we're nowhere near each other so it won't matter to you either way. My profession goes away: fine, I'm sad about that, but presumably dollars also go away. On the other hand, I'll be amazed if a bellicose asshole like you survives the transition period. You know that, which is why you are so invested in arguing about it on the internet.

    Arguing about it on the internet is a completely pointless activity on the surface. What are you going to do? All the planes fall out of the sky and the power goes out and we don't ever talk to each other again (thank god) and what? You've somehow improved your odds of survival by telling someone thousands of miles away that they're fucked? There is no reason, except in the case of agitprop (maybe you're a fed) or you're a wignat LARPer and your ego is tied up in it: you want to look impressive to people that you can only talk to because civilization has *not* collapsed, people whose existence would be completely irrelevant to you if society were to collapse tomorrow.

    I would like for you to stop bothering to me: in neither the "wignat dogfucker" case nor the "federal agent" case do I want to hear what you have to say and I have nothing to say to you. Thank you.

    For FSE, almost all of it. For everything else in my life, I mean, I am connected to the city's water system, the power grid, I don't drill my own oil. I figure I could do my computing fine with a solar panel, some of the machines I have just use a trickle, but computing would be a recreational activity if electricity got scarce.

I usually use ^A and then left arrow or ^E and then right arrow for the rare occasion when it happens now, but I actually don't move the cursor as much as I used to. (I mean, when I was using vi, while I was thinking I used to spam "kj" or ":w", but that aside, when editing, I don't bounce around as much.)
