    @mint I did so too, until also got tired of doing manual updates. It's best for desktop with fancy architecture that nobody optimizes for by default.

    @menherahair what is the point of forwarding API requests via tor, but leaking your source for the media? Go HTTP client should respect HTTP_PROXY environment variable and you can probably additionally customize sources to use different instances of *http.Client for API and media requests if you indeed want separate handling.

    @sim Americans are probably the nation equivalent of teenagers. Arguably they weren't around for long, but how they tryhard at sticking to predefined identity boxes with absolutist zeal, act compulsively out of willful ignorance and unfounded self-esteem is also characteristic of the same age period. Everyone must be put in confines of some predefined ideology among a set of other competing ideologies, all mostly defined in various configurations of pro-thing and anti-thing. With perception of other nations it gets even worse, because now they have to put an entire association of societies into one of their boxes, and as with blind men trying to describe an elephant, they usually end up picking different ones depending on whatever subset they sampled at a time to the mounting confusion of everyone involved. Same with phenotypically perception, it must be surface-level and immediately apparent, otherwise it is no longer clear which ideological set it is supposed to cover.

    @Bobetap @satori Starting new instance under same domain should be almost a noop, but migration from mastodon that allows to retain access to old content would require to map data to different persistence layout and either implement custom authentication to work with old hashes, or perform an instance-wide password reset. To also allow old content to remain federatable, an id correspondence will have to be stored somewhere during migration and a simple translation service using that information added to the reverse proxy. All could take several weeks to implement and test out at leisurely pace, but probably worst of all, it will also remove the justification for more gibs.

    @w @cassidyclown @r Yes, taking alarmist approach is indeed counter-productive. Appropriate mitigations can be implemented with high-level knowledge of the scope of vulnerability and by refusing to indicate that, you try to become bigger disruption then the underlying vulnerability might be. Essentially you're elevating what might be a trivial XSS issue, easily mitigated by appropriate security policy, to the full denial of service.
