@satori I think you're doing well and holding the balance overall. We're surrounded by angry lunatics on all sides these days, everyone wants to attack you the moment they don't get their way to the letter: It was never possible to please everyone, more so today in the insane world we now live in. Just know some of us agree with what we're seeing and appreciate what you're doing so far!
@satori Looks very good! Didn't expect #Mastodon to improve even further than it has, and despite the issues I've personally had with its team years ago, I can say so far I'm very happy with how it's developing as a software. Still hate how complex it is to run and the hacks or dependencies it relies on in places, wish someday that could be improved too.
@satori If they didn't send you an email saying anything bad, it's likely a technical error. Abusive as those platforms are they at least make it clear if they ban someone, even when they're so lowly they won't even say why since somehow that's a thing.
@satori Oh wow: I didn't realize it was quite that long! Thank you; You've truly done an amazing job, keeping a balance and the service running well and fairly for all users. Wishing the best for the future and that things keep going just as well and even better 😃
@satori One possibly obvious suggestion: If the situation remains dire over the next days, make a new announcement and suggest those who are willing to enable post auto-deletion. I'd recommend 2 years: That should be enough to free up some space, while typically nothing is found and missed after such a long period of time.
Two instances on which I run media posting bots asked me to enable it last year as they were running out of space: It seems to be a limitation much of the fediverse ran into.
@satori I can only think of one piece of advice that could be helpful at the moment: The Lemmy instance https://burggit.moe has a storage service https://shota.nu for their media, they have the same liberal rules on art as us. See if you can encourage some creators to upload there and link their media here? Maybe talk with their team to see if they can help, there's a Matrix channel let me know if you're interested in a link.
@satori Darn: I did not know it's this bad. Really hope it gets solved, good luck and all my good thoughts! 300$ a month sounds like so much too... are electricity bills this horrible in the USA?
@satori Ah, that explains it: I only know of that ability for Mastodon, other software may indeed not have it. Hopefully a solution is found in the end.
@satori Cheers again for being a good admin that knows how to treat users right 👍 One thing I couldn't help wondering: If they defederated the entirety of the server as I understand is the case, why didn't they just media block us instead which would prevent NSFW content from showing but without blocking all interactions? While I understand them expecting all content to be tagged accordingly, they could at least only block media given there exists that option.
@satori In this regard even I fully agree, and I'm sorry some users here weren't doing something this simple. Furious as I am at mainstream #socialmedia persecuting #NSFW content including age based #censorship and more, it's fair that creators use tags and the CW field to describe sensitive content: This way others can blacklist them and won't have a (valid) reason to complain they've ran into something they didn't want to see then demand the whole #internet gets more censored for their liking.
@hachi#America chose going back to the dark ages and being offended by anything even remotely sexual, #USA is more likely to copy #Uganda if anything. US politicians still enact laws based on superstitions that everything in the world is harmful to children (both parties even). The only part of the #LGBT community some support are those who are useful to the system, typically ones who love to live with a permanent victim complex and show everyone how persecuted they were as a badge of honor.
@matrix Unlike not wearing a piece of cloth on your face to protect people across the road from a common flu that was actually a super-duper killer pandemic till it suddenly decided to become nice and stop killing, for which the punishment was public execution in any way that didn't involve physical death caused by the via direct means. People should at least commit lighter crimes like robbery murder or rape instead of doing horrible stuff like that, I swear!
@Terry Willing to bet a good chunk are Americans having to look at Putin's Russia and think to themselves "wish we still had as much personal liberty and democracy here".
