@irispoplar as long as I can reasonably tell that something is 3D art and not real life porn, I will continue to legally host the 3D artists already here on baraag.

But please understand that the more realistic 3D works that appear on baraag, the larger the target is painted on my back for authorities that cannot tell the difference between what is 3D rendered and what is illegal abuse content.

It’s nothing personal, but unfortunately minimizing 3D is a mitigation of risk for this community.

On the 1st and 15th of each month, baraag will allow for artists to apply directly for account registration here:

Artists must provide link examples of their work.

*At this time, we are not accepting applications from AI content creators or realistic 3D artists.

@arielcelestia i do apologize. At least we narrowed it down to the problem. It is indeed because the latest version of Mastodon cannot handle multiple open tabs of baraag at the same time. Whalebird should be fine because there are no tabs in the client.

@Senchopera captioning or editing any art that one did not draw themselves is not allowed on baraag.

Testing out an animation workflow. Export from Clip Studio to Opentoonz with no anti-aliasing makes the coloring process a whole lot easier.

Software upgrades:

-Support for higher resolution & quality for uploaded images or video content.
-Hashtags placed at the end of the body of text will show up in its own bar underneath the post dedicated just to tags.
-Improved search (we may experiment with enabling full text search)
-Boosts no longer pollute the Posts and Replies tab on profiles.
-Polls finally have a button to view results without having to vote.

Hardware upgrades:

Our previous dedicated server was a 16 core Intel Xeon with 128GB of DDR3 RAM. We are now on a 64 core AMD EPYC server with 512GB of DDR4 RAM.

The physical location of the server has also changed but remains based in America where it continues to comply with US laws and state jurisdiction.

User experience at baraag should be much smoother now with noticeably faster loading of pages and content.

The good news is that we have finally migrated to the upgraded hardware that was desperately needed to keep us running. We are now on our 4th server since the start of baraag.net in 2017. It would not have been possible without all the help i’ve received, both monetarily and in technical assistance. I hope the funding continues to be sustainable and that baraag remains online for years to come. Seriously, thank you all for the support.

And now, without further ado, let me outline changes…

I would like to provide some updates on the recent changes here at baraag.net

First, I would like to apologize for the downtime we faced lately while we were offline to implement upgrades. I definitely could have better communicated the software update ahead of time with an announcement. The old server configuration was struggling to get us onto v4.2.0, and what should have taken minutes to upgrade unexpectedly took us several hours to complete.

@Mystix you are free to not do me that favor and become unrestricted of your own will. But if you want to see baraag stay alive than that favor means a lot to me. If you do not care about the risks I shoulder over it than by all means start posting publicly again.

Please understand it is not easy to host realistic 3D works and I am just trying my best to keep this place from getting shut down.

I would definitely look into the other Mastodon server at open3dlab.social

@Mystix I only ask that you post realistic 3D works as unlisted as a personal favor to me, not because I am enforcing a hard rule that restricts you.

I am still in the process of finding a new server host for baraag, and minimizing the heat from realistic content gives me a better fighting chance at that without them rejecting me for containing realistic 3D and facing false reports.

@InvincibleSugar I need to update my pixivFANBOX but I now have additional cost since the start of 2023, of which includes an automated backup service (in the event that baraag goes down or has its plug pulled, all posts & its content can be restored to another server) and remote media storage service to offload the worry of every running out of disk space on the server itself. Both these services keep increasing in cost as more media files are hosted.

While baraag has remained closed as invite-only, the server is now hitting its limits and I am left with no choice but to make another upgrade soon to keep us running smoothly.

The new server I am eyeing will increase my monthly cost by an additional $300 USD, an amount that I can bear for a short while before it stops being financially sustainable for me.

I hate to make a plea for donations but if you can spare anything to my SubscribeStar or pixivFANBOX pages, I would be forever grateful.

Federation has resumed between baraag.net & misskey.io with artists from both servers now able to interact with each other.

I wish to thank the admin of misskey.io @AureoleArk for working with me to make this happen, and also @1eq2 for helping with the communication between us.

Most importantly, I’d like to thank everyone here at baraag for their courtesy in making the effort to mark their NSFW posts as sensitive content. I hope to keep us all federating in the future going forward.
