@pinetree Do you know Tapai? My wife said that most of her Muslim family likes tapai. They either eat it, or they separate it to make rice wine. They like to pretend it's not alcohol, and even drink it as a way to celebrate ramadan and eid. She got in a debate with one of her teachers, saying tapai is like wine and stronger alcohol than beer. The teacher said it's halal for whatever reason ๐คฃ
She said they use "ragi" yeast, similar to how Chinese/Japanese people make rice wine.
Because it's kind of hard to come across fruit juice here and I'm too lazy to make it, we're going to try homebrewing rice wine next. I really enjoy Japanese sake so I'm curious how they compare.
@pinetree in this context, homemade wine. Mixed some fruit juice, sugar, water, yeast. Unfortunately this juice has preservatives in it, which may prevent fermentation, so my next batch may just be โsugar wineโ like how poor Finnish punks make it. (Iโm too lazy to make my own fruit juice, I just want cheap homemade alcohol)
@pinetree yup. it's better if you use special wine/beer yeast, but regular bread yeast can get the job done. next time, maybe use pisang or mangga because it's cheap here hahaha
