ilja :pumpkin_owo:is there any one smart enough to file an issue somewhere to get the Elixir release builds be static builds? So we don't need all these flavours any more and people can just drop the binary on w/e distro they have as long as the cpu architecture is good. (As I understand, that should be possible with static builds, right?)
I guess having dynamic builds makes sense for corporations who control their infra, but for floss projects, that just seems like a bother in a lot of cases...
I'm not smart enough. I don't know where to ask, how to ask, and if they want more information, I'll probably not even understand the question :/
@lain Hey, and welcome to Mastodon, Katy! May I suggest you use the #instroduction hashtag for better discoverability. You see, here on Mastodon we don't have full text search because only people who want to harass people would ever want to search things. Anyhow, welcome to Mastodon, I hope you have a tooting time!
Reminder that proxying your fedi instance through cloudflare does not magically hide your ip address!
Resolving your domain will return the cloudflare ip, but your instance also sends out requests, and those don't go through cloudflare. Any one with an instance you federate with can find it by checking their access logs, e.g. grep 'example.com' /var/log/nginx/access.log
Also, the requests that are send to your server (including DM's and passwords) will all pass through cloudflare and be readable to them. You should consider if that's acceptable to you.
If hiding your IP is something you want (or maybe you require this to get open ports or something), you're better of using a vpn to a place/server you trust, such that all traffic goes through there. This can be a vps somewhere, or an isp who provides ip addresses this way. FFDN is a group of volnteer-based member-owned isp's, some of whom provide such a service, see https://www.ffdn.org/en/members-fdn-federation (most, if not all, are French though).
@lain Not entirely sure what "the whole left of the universe" exactly entails, but in general and with current understanding, my guess would be that you wouldn't feel that :blobfoxthinking: If there's a gravitational attraction change, the earth would start to accelerate in a different direction to compensate, so the net result to you would be the same. Otoh, there will be a stronger force on one side of the planet then the other, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make :blobfoxthink: Or maybe you're on the "left part" who disappeared, in which case you may not feel anything at all any more :blobfoxo_o:
@thatguyoverthere@Moon@chjara That's something I've heard about as well, but always kinda rubbed me wrong. At first glance it seems good because it implies that you can take days off as much as you need. But in practice you're incentivised to put your job first. I have a fixed number of days I'm required to take, and at the end of the year I typically have days left that I then take up. I'm sure I would take less days off in a system of supposed unlimited than what I can do now.
@chjara I'm not surprised by much there any more. I still remember the Tor project advertising an open vacancy on fedi, which I curiously checked out. They were bragging how you get 16 leave days, and the week between xmas and new years off (with that week being part of the 16 days, so really only 11 days off total). And I also remember someone mentioning that sick days are basically your leave days there... (I hope it's more nuanced, though, but that's how I understood it)
Hellooo :blobfoxwave: I'm ilja!I believe in a world of cooperation rather than competition. One of my current personal projects in life is to lessen my dependence on for-profit companies, and rather join non-profits and coops. I consider the world of free software and free culture an important part of this more cooperative world I long for. I created the following bots: @citizen_initiative_bot @translate @cc_music_bot @translate uses an MRF module I made with the goal of making it easier to create "reply and I respond"-type bots. If you're interested in that, check out it's profile.I also wrote APStatic ( https://codeberg.org/ilja/APStatic/ ) which is some simple docs on how to get a static site have some (very) basic support for federation.Trans rights are human rights :trans_flag: :agender_flag: queer rights are human rights :rainbow_flag: :lesbian_lipstick_flag: And it's sad that over half a century after the Stonewall uprising, we still have to remember pe
