@aral it's ironic he rails against government at the same time as saying he is friends with anyone supporting small tech when the number one, no-strings-attached funder of startups is government grants. Show me a VC that will give you money because it's good for society.

Tom (serpentroots@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 15-Feb-2024 16:16:56 JST Tom I decided about a year ago that I was going to find the perfect job that would make me happy. I applied for pretty much everything that matched my criteria. I interviewed at so many places I knew I didn't want to work for, learning at every step of the way. I tracked everything in a big spreadsheet with comprehensive notes about how companies interview, which recruiters to avoid and who provides comprehensive feedback.
Would anyone want a full write-up on this?

Tom (serpentroots@hachyderm.io)'s status on Wednesday, 26-Apr-2023 19:34:24 JST Tom @aral I guess the way I was thinking about it was that I'd love to see some of my close friends Instagram posts federated into a Pixelfed instance so that I could avoid Instagram entirely. I know this probably isn't likely with the competing ethics.

Tom (serpentroots@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 13-Feb-2023 10:04:08 JST Tom @alcinnz @davidgerard this pissed me off more than the original proposal. It set up an us-vs-them situation between the maintainers and the users where the needs of the core team override the needs of the users.
As someone who manages god knows how many Go binaries in CI and test systems they're basically telling me that my time is not valuable. I'll have to audit everything, build tools to opt-out and track compliance, etc.
It's left a bad taste.
