@aral I'm not involved with #Fedora, but presumably there's a release process that is written somewhere.

This sounds like a bug in not just the software, but also the release process. Perhaps the way to tackle the software bug is to fix the release process so that alarm bells ring *before* next release.

Grabbing prerelease images and testing and raising bugs in the run up to release might provoke some action - if you have the time to do that. *someone* clearly needs to!

@C19LAP Promoting Facebook as a safe environment to discuss personal health is *deeply* irresponsible.

FB's real name policy, combined with their long history of abusing and selling personal data (including to health insurers) puts people at risk.

FB may be an easy place to set up a group, but it is the wrong place.

@neil Once you've done all you can to reduce your own (tiny, personal) carbon footprint, perhaps you could invest in getting others (large, corporate) to reduce theirs.

One way to do that might be to donate to lobby groups and political parties etc. that will work on your behalf. Would take some research, but might be a more effective way to "unionize" our efforts beyond planting a few trees.

@karen @christi3k Karen: Speak to @josh and @phpledge regarding the Safety Policy - the Public Health Pledge team have been helping events for months now.

If you're serious about safety, you're leaving this rather late in the process.

The policy should really be considered *first* before deciding to 1) run the conference or 2) choose the venue.

It certainly needs to be in place before calling for anyone to participate, as without it how can anyone decide to commit?

@fsfe What is the Covid policy? I can't find one on the site. Are any precautions being taken? Does the conference adhere to the Public Health Pledge?

@josh and the PHP team have offered to help conferences be covid safe.

We need FOSS orgs like FSFE to show leadership in this.

To my utter astonishment, the NGI Outreach Office just declared all Open Source conferencing software as unfit for purpose.

"Following the technical problems and limitations we encountered when trying to use the open-source BigBlueButton software, we have decided to revert to a
proven commercial solution, ZOOM. We are fully aware that this technical choice is not fully in line with some of the values promoted by the NGI initiative..."

They continue: "we have unfortunately not yet identified any open-source and/or European solution that can compete in terms of functionality, stability
and quality with the services provided by ZOOM, GoToMeeting or Webex. We are
of course open to any suggestion, but for the time being, the NGI Outreach
Office has chosen to focus on the quality of your experience"
