Sounds like an anti-farm tax. It either varies with value of the land, or you're picking an average which charges city prices to rural residents.

Interesting they wanted to do it in Detroit.

The math is more complicated, but my idea is more direct: reduce cost of living.

No UBI, no taxes, no bureaucratic overhead.

Then again, I grew up in a town where you could work a week a month and afford to live.

Land value tax is going to drive up housing prices.

If you want to lower housing prices, drop the property taxes and excessive regulations.

When it costs $500 to make even basic plumbing repairs because of city code, rents are going to be very high.

Property taxes get added on to the price of the land. This is why in high-tax areas the prices steadily go up. People have to recoup their investment.

The land value tax will also go up when prices go up, which means that as soon as a property near you goes up in value, you will pay more.

This forces people to give up land and housing.

We see it here with property taxes. It's called "gentrification," and it's why Hwite people love property taxes.

Medical care was a lot cheaper and better here before the subsidies. Then again, subsidies produce monopolies.

We currently have a socialized medicine system with several tiers and mostly, you pay for illegals.

However this is an opinion from a city where healthcare is a major industry.

In my experience, it's not poverty that causes crime.

People do crime because they're angry, bored, and selfish.

Most Black people do not commit any substantial crimes.

With the sheer amount of laws in this country, almost no one has committed zero crimes.

Doesn't track with real-life experience.

The people committing crimes are parasites on their families as well as their communities.

They aren't doing this for money to live. Most of them are on welfare. They are doing it for money to party.

We are from different societies, but I can tell you what the situation is here.

Welfare is livable, if you are willing to not spend it excessively. Most of the welfare people get here goes toward rent and then the EBT/SNAP subsidized foods.

However, at some point, people need jobs to have any decent standard of living. Much as I hate jobs, that's the economic reality.

However, before we had excessive taxation, you could live for $500 a month here... and people routinely did. That was a better time.
