Context: I am dyslexic & ADHD and require assistive devices like Text-to-Speech to help me read books (and other content) from time to time. No, an audiobook doesn’t solve this issue. No, TTS and audiobooks are not the same. 👍🏻

My #cat has been sick lately and they can’t quite pinpoint what’s going on.

I know, she’s 17 1/2… but I’ll never be ready for ‘that day’.

It’s been expensive, very expensive, but she’s worth it. She’s stable - just some lab work and symptoms that are unusual.

She’s been my little everything my entire adult life. We have a special bond.

We’re going to the vet again tomorrow for more tests — could you please keep my lil Mac in your thoughts? She’s the bestest baby.

This decision will likely force our instance to allow instant account creation in order to have any discoverability come from the Mastodon website. It will cause more unnecessary work for our mods in having to weed out bot accounts *after* creation, and does not allow us to curate our community the way we intend.

All I can say is this: If you like https://mstdn.games and want to see it continue to grow, please share our instance with those you know looking for a home on Mastodon. Thanks.

I also want to state: this decision from the joinmastodon.org website makes ZERO instances show up when a user selects the ‘LGBTQ+’ category. ZERO.

We all know these instances require manual sign-ups to prevent trolls and hate accounts from being created.

This decision is terrible.

UPDATE: Eugen has REVERSED this decision as of right now -- the changes are now live. All servers are now listed again -- BUT -- servers with 'instant' sign-ups are now always listed above those with 'manual' sign-ups.

I'll take this compromise for now.

As I was investigating why our server has seen a decrease in new user sign-ups, I noticed the JoinMastodon.org website now lists servers with ‘Instant’ sign-ups as a priority over those with manual signups.

They used to list ‘All’ by default - displaying our server under the Gaming category upon first look for new users. Now it’s hidden.

By actively reducing the visibility of servers who require sign-ups , it’s hurting the Fedi as a whole by creating large centralized servers.
